3 day-trip in Île-de-France

Day 1: Royal Grandeur in Versailles

Our Ile-de-France adventure began with a step back in time at the magnificent Château de Versailles. Exploring the opulent palace, wandering through the breathtaking Hall of Mirrors, and strolling in the vast, perfectly manicured gardens truly felt like entering a different era of French history and grandeur. After a day immersed in royal splendor, we checked into the charming Hôtel du Jeu de Paume in Versailles, a wonderfully situated base allowing us to easily reflect on the day’s regal experiences.

Versailles offers a wealth of activities, famously centered around the magnificent Palace of Versailles. Visitors can explore the opulent State Apartments, including the dazzling Hall of Mirrors, and delve into the private lives of French royalty by visiting the Grand Trianon and Marie Antoinette’s Estate, which includes the charming Queen’s Hamlet. Beyond the palace walls, the meticulously landscaped Gardens of Versailles are a must-see, with their grand perspectives, ornate fountains (which often feature musical shows), and the expansive Grand Canal. For a deeper dive into the area’s history and culture, consider visiting the Royal Tennis Court, a key site of the French Revolution, or the Coach Gallery. The town of Versailles itself invites exploration with its historic Notre-Dame district, lively market, and the King’s Kitchen Garden. You can also enjoy equestrian shows at the National Equestrian Academy or discover lesser-known gems like the Lambinet Museum.

Day 2: Parisian Icons and Romantic Nights

Day two whisked us away to the heart of Paris! We spent the morning getting lost amidst masterpieces at the world-renowned Le Louvre, a truly awe-inspiring cultural immersion. As the afternoon unfolded, we made our way to the iconic Eiffel Tower, taking in the breathtaking panoramic views of the city as it twinkled to life. Our Parisian night was spent at the Hotel de Suede Saint-Germain, perfectly located in the vibrant Saint-Germain-des-Prés district, offering a classic Parisian experience after a day of iconic sights.

For a classic romantic outing, share a picnic in one of Paris’s beautiful parks, such as the Luxembourg Gardens or the Parc des Buttes-Chaumont, or wander through the Tuileries Garden near the Louvre. Art-loving couples can admire masterpieces together at world-renowned museums like the Louvre or the Musée d’Orsay. Indulge in a romantic dinner at a traditional French bistro or a Michelin-starred restaurant, savoring exquisite cuisine and wine. For a unique touch, visit the “I Love You” Wall (Le Mur des Je t’aime) in Montmartre, discover hidden passageways, or enjoy a captivating cabaret show for a memorable night out.
Paris, often called the “City of Love,” offers many romantic activities for couples. A classic choice is a scenic cruise along the Seine River, especially at sunset or when the city lights sparkle. For breathtaking views, a visit to the Eiffel Tower is a must, perhaps with a glass of champagne at the summit. Strolling hand-in-hand through charming neighborhoods like Montmartre/Saint-Germain-Des-Pres, with its artistic ambiance and the “Wall of I Love You’s” (Le Mur des Je t’aime), or the historic Le Marais with its picturesque Place des Vosges, offers intimate moments.

Day 3: Enchantment and Rides at Disneyland Paris

For our final day, the magic of Disneyland Paris awaited! We embraced the magic within, spending the entire day experiencing the thrilling rides and soaking up the enchanting atmosphere of the park. From classic attractions to exciting new adventures, it was a day filled with fun and fantasy. To complete the magical experience, we stayed at the themed Disney Hotel Santa Fe, extending the immersive Disney feeling right through the night before our departure.

Here are five rides that are widely considered must-dos:

  1. Big Thunder Mountain: This thrilling runaway mine train roller coaster, set on a haunted mountain in the heart of Frontierland, is a beloved classic for its exciting drops, twists, and immersive Western theming. It’s a perennial favorite for a reason, offering fun for most of the family (though it can be a bit intense for very young children).
  2. Pirates of the Caribbean: An iconic dark ride, this boat journey takes you through incredibly detailed scenes of swashbuckling pirates, epic battles, and treasure-filled caverns. The immersive atmosphere and memorable “Yo Ho (A Pirate’s Life for Me)” shanty make it a quintessential Disney experience.
  3. Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain: For thrill-seekers and Star Wars fans, this high-speed indoor roller coaster blasts you through an epic space battle. With its intense launches, inversions, and Star Wars soundtrack and effects, it’s one of the most exhilarating rides in the park. (Note: This attraction sometimes reverts to its classic “Space Mountain: Mission 2” theming, but the Star Wars overlay is a frequent and popular iteration).
  4. The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™: Located in Walt Disney Studios Park, this elaborately themed drop ride plunges guests down a haunted elevator shaft in the eerie Hollywood Tower Hotel. The pre-show, detailed atmosphere, and randomized drop sequences make it a uniquely thrilling and memorable experience.
  5. Crush’s Coaster®: Also in Walt Disney Studios Park, this spinning roller coaster takes you on a journey through the East Australian Current with Nemo and Crush. Combining coaster thrills with spinning cars and scenes from “Finding Nemo,” it’s a very popular ride, especially with families, and often boasts long wait times.
